Wood fuelled heating systems are also known as bio-mass systems. This type of system burns wood pellets, chips or logs to provide power to central heating systems and hot water boilers
Benefits of bio-mass heating in a church
- Affordable heating fuel – although the price of wood fuel varies considerably, it can often be cheaper than other heating options.
- Financial support – Wood fuel boiler systems may be able to benefit from the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI)
- A low carbon option – The carbon dioxide emitted when wood is burning is around the same amount that the plant absorbed during the years and months that it was growing. This process is sustainable as long as new plants continue to grow in place of those used for fuel. There are some carbon emissions caused in the cultivation, manufacture and transportation of the fuel but if the fuel can be sourced locally these emissions are lower than those of fossil fuels’.
